The sentence has raised questions about Sudan's penal code, based on Islamic Shari'a law, which rights groups say has been used unfairly in the majority-Muslim nation.
The two women, Sadia Idriss Fadul and Amouna Abdallah Daldoum, were sentenced to death in Gezira State, central Sudan,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], for committing adultery.
Fadul was sentenced in mid-February and Daldoum in early March.
Both women are from the war-torn Darfur region,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Amnesty International charges one of Fadul's children has been imprisoned along with her.
Sudan's legal system is based in part on an Islamic code of law, known as Shari'a.
Under Shari'a law, the death penalty can be applied in cases of murder,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], adultery or leaving Islam for another religion.
Rights groups charge that Shari'a law has been unfairly applied in Sudan.
Faisal El Bagir, a prominent human rights activist with the Khartoum Center for Human Rights and Environmental Development told VOA that he respects the tenets of Shari'a law.

Rights activist El Bagir tells VOA there was little chance the women understood the proceedings.
"The women definitely are not understanding the language of the court and they did not understand the procedures,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said. "The Arabic language, which is the language of the court is not their mother tongue".
But Sudanese officials insist that rights groups have painted an unfair picture of Sudan's legal system.
The president of the Sudanese Bar Association, Fathi Khaleel, tells VOA it is highly unlikely the women will actually face death.
Khaleel said there are at four appeals processes that must be exhausted before a death sentence is carried out.
"The law is very clear. There is no punishment of stoning here. This is a politically motivated step from Amnesty International," he said. "There is no sentence of stoning here in Sudan,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], at all. They know that. This is politically motivated."
According to news reports the two women have not yet filed an appeal with Sudanese authorities,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Before a death sentence is carried out in Sudan, it must be approved by Sudanese President Omer Al Bashir.

The Obama camp seems to think that the nuclear issue,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], when compared to problems in Iraq and Afghanistan, can be managed through the six-party talks alone.

The ��solution�� has been cited repeatedly since the Democratic Party platform adopted it in August.
It's true that the six-party talks, initiated in September 2003, have done more about the nuclear issue than the UN. The Sept. 19, 2005 joint declaration specifying the principle of abandoning North Korea��s nuclear weapons, and the Feb. 13, 2007 denuclearization agreement, are both products of the six-party talks. There has even been a study proposing to upgrade the summit to an "East Asia peace institute."
But the six-party talks are also subject to the criticism that they open only when the North requires. When Pyongyang suspended disabling its Yongbyon nuclear facilities, the talks were meaningless. The world was helpless as the North claimed it had begun reassembling its program,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in flagrant violation of the agreement.
The North Korean nuclear issue is similar to water leaking into a boat before one is aware of it. We don't feel the seriousness right away, but the dangerous irregularity of the North's nuclear status and South Korea's conventional weaponry could be seen to offset economic gap between the two Koreas.
The chronic nuclear standoff cannot be resolved so long as the mere opening of the six-party talks is perceived as an achievement. We should not be satisfied with photos showing senior delegates shaking hands. many people in the United States know that the Ford has been running a huge
financial institution that lends billions of dollars to consumers with
usurious rates of high interest both domestically and internationally, and
some of funds that are under the Ford's management have been already in the
Seoul bourse and other investments in the South.
Would the civic leaders have a capacity to tell the people to boycott what
portion of capitals running in the industrial veins of their country is a
Ford product?
Yet, the mechanisms of ravenous corporate control for profit have remained

Times and Korea Herald laud big corporations for creating jobs and
