It has been pointed out to me that one of my subtle forms of negative behavior is telling inappropriate jokes and making inappropriate comments that on some level I know will offend others. Up until now I rationalized this behavior by thinking I was helping people see where their issues were, known as pushing their buttons. I even thought I was being funny. Actually I was engaged in a very subtle violence towards people I said I loved. At times it became an art form of emotional terrorism. Now that I am aware of it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I have stopped this. This doesn’t mean that I will stop telling jokes. What it means is that I have to raise my level of self-analysis regarding the appropriateness of my behavior and my motivation.

Yet, as anyone in the early stages of being in business knows, the details of your brand and the fine-tunings of taglines and copy keep evolving so quickly that it is easy to feel scattered and diffuse for a while.
Once I really understood on a deep level that it is actually selfish of me not to reach out and market, everything changed! Rather than feeling hesitant for fear of appearing pushy, I now view marketing as relationship-building at its best.
I began with Mentor to the Soul, serving spiritually-minded people who want to make a difference. That has now evolved to Mentor to the Soul of Business. I kept being pulled by a knowing that there was more that my Soul wanted me to offer. My clients showed me the way, and as that happened, more people wanting to start or uplevel soul-based businesses have been pulled toward me. It has been part of my Soul’s Design.

This expansion of consciousness brings with it the awareness of our Oneness. It becomes more and more impossible to take without giving, to do business in a vacuum of greed, not caring about others. This expansion supports us in getting clear about our bigger WHY. It opens our hearts and leads us to those we are called to serve, to our people.

Ask yourself what that is in your life. What is the bigger WHY that gets you out of bed in the morning? What, beyond fame,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], success, or money,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], draws you like a hummingbird to the sweet nectar in a flower? This is connected to your purpose.
We live in an ever-expanding universe, and the time-space continuum is shifting so rapidly at this point, that most people will tell you that they “don’t know where time goes.” Along with this shift in the experience of time, comes an opportunity to expand beyond limits that were never real in the first place.

The answer to that question is one of the keys to the success of your business, and to the joy in your life.
The greatest clarity will come from authentic connection with your clients. Doing the following research is fantastic way to take the guessing out of this phase,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
This early phase of getting crystal clear about your message is essential if your business is to have a solid foundation. You must do some serious drilling down to discover the real pain points of the clients you want to work with. Unless you are truly tuned in to their deepest issues and challenges,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you will not be successful in helping them.
1. Create a questionnaire asking your clients, or people whom you feel would be your ideal clients, what they need help with the most. Ask them what keeps them up at night,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], what they would change if they could. Ask them what they need the most to make the changes they want to make. Let them know you are gathering information that will help you to serve them.
2. Schedule a meeting with them (face-to-face, phone or skype) to go over the results of the questionnaire. You could ask them to lunch or to have coffee or send a gift to thank them.
3. Gather those results and craft a message using the very words your clients used to describe their needs.
If it is not bigger than your own immediate gain, you will not be satisfied. If it does not include your own gain, you will not continue. When it is fueled by love, you are on to something profound.

When you work from home, there are plenty of excuses to avoid getting down to business. One of the most frequent reasons clients give me for procrastinating about their work is that they just don’t like their home office.

If you ever met such a character,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you have had the pleasure of being in the web of a splitter. Splitters give the most mixed of mixed messages. Example: You say “Hi, how are you?” and you get a ten minute monologue about the woes of the day. Then as you walk away, late for a meeting, they slide in a comment about how because they were talking with you they most likely wont get their next project done on time.
Do you know someone who offers to help with one hand and then pushes you away with the other? Or maybe someone who brings all the goodies to work,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the sugar free donuts for example and then tells you they are being saved for a special invite only group at lunch?
Mixed messages, no-win situations are the norm in the world of the splitter. And of course they will tell you about how others are frustrated with your behavior and when you get annoyed, well just wait a minute or two and they will run to others to tell them how upset you are with them.
It’s enough to make you gag!
Splitters are always your BFF,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. They will tell you how they “have your back and will be there for you when the going gets tough,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. They will report any gossip or let you know if there is a storm looming on the horizon,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Yet it if you do have a problem they are no where to be found to check and make sure that what they told you was correct.
Splitters are the most crafty, the most clever,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the moist difficult to detect at work. They can spoil an entire office environment. They are the ones that prove “one rotten apple can spoil the barrel.
Splitters often come from families where there was excessive stress and the blame game was played by everyone, parents,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], siblings and all others who were near the home. It was never safe. The splitter learned that safety means divide and conquer. They are masters at playing both sides. Actually,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], many splitters would make great CIA agents of James Bond caliber.
They are hard to spot. They are the ones who look good, sound good and are bound to make you think you are crazy in a very short time.

Here is the bad news. Splitters rarely change. They are the most devious of all the patterns I write about in “Don’t Bring It to Work”. Once their cover is blown and they cannot keep up their underhanded ways if you are lucky they will quit in a huff.
